Senior Community Service Employment Program |
 |
|
| The Senior Community Service Employment Program
began as part of the war on poverty more than 40 years ago and
was so successful that it became a national program under the
Older Americans Act in 1973. Referred to by the acronym, SCSEP
(pronounced See-Sep), the work-training and employment program
encourages and lengthens self-sufficiency by supplementing income
while providing work training, increased marketability and opportunities
for and transition into unsubsidized employment for men and
women ages 55 and older. In order to participate, an individual
must fall within annually established Federal Income Guidelines.
SCSEP is federally funded and monitored by the Department of
Labor [DOL] through the Older Americans Act Title V Program.
Program services are administered and provided by the DOL, Senior
Service America and the Winston-Salem Urban League. The Winston-Salem
Urban League provides these services by partnering with local
non-profit and government facilities, known as “Host Agencies”,
the local county “One-Stop System” training and
employment services and local employers interested in hiring
the mature worker. Along with the qualifying men and women ages
55 and older, (the participants), these efforts create a universal
service that will maximize the participants’ ability to
achieve their employment goals. |
