“Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars… Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

– Martin Luther King, Jr.
Moments ago, Rakeyia Scott’s cell video of her husband, Keith Lamont Scott, being shot by Charlotte police officers was released online. The video is upsetting to say the least.

NBC News, upon releasing the video, observed that no gun can be seen in the video. The network notes conflicting reports as to whether Scott had a gun or posed a threat to officers.

An investigation is underway. But we know two things for sure: strong reforms are needed and peaceful advocacy is the best way to achieve it.

As such, we urge our friends and partners to remain peaceful in their protest. We urge all involved to channel your frustrations into strategic advocacy.

Violence is not the ansewr.

Sincerely,
